REMINDER ABOUT RESUBMITTING WORK

The automated process we have that determines how long things have been waiting to be graded has kicked out several of your names in the last few days. In checking, it appears that you are looking at some of these assignments and asking students for resubmissions, and them leaving them in the box. The computer then keeps sending updates that you haven't graded an assignment and it makes it look like you are slacking.

If you would, when you ask for a resubmission, go ahead and put the 0. That serves two purposes – it satisfies the "system" that you are grading in a timely manner AND it convinces the student to go ahead and do that in a timely manner and not just wait around on it.

I usually put a note like this in the feedback box and CHECK √ the box that says SEND TO EXTERNAL ADDRESS so they see it quickly:

I see you had some trouble with this – don't forget that when you take the square root of both sides, you have to put ± (PLUS OR MINUS) to get two solutions, then check them. DO NOT PANIC – this can be fixed, but I have to put a 0 as a place holder in any submitted assignment. YOU CAN MAKE THIS UP with no penalty – I can give you a week to go back and relearn and resubmit this, ok? Let me know if you have any questions! JD

I just wanted to remind you, because I know you are doing your job, and sometimes we have to look really hard to figure that outJ

Cool Tool #4

I love using remember the milk! It is a to do list manager, but much more. You can send messages to your to do list via email, text, etc. It also can add tasks from Google. Best of all, you can have it send you reminders to your phone or email when you need to be doing (getting) something. It is a great place to keep your shopping list. You always have your phone, right?

MEMORY TOOLS!

Have you ever had a cell phone call or something you needed to write the details to, but you are not near the computer or somewhere to write? ReQall or Dial2Do can help that!

Cool Tool #2

Goanimate - http://goanimate.com/go/movie/0fYdbnzgZfAg?utm_source=emailshare&uid=0vyDa-MDkcT8

Like Voki, but cooler - you can make "cartoons" that are animated to give your students instructions!

AWESOME HIGHLIGHTER

Awesome Highlighter lets you highlight text on web pages and then gives you a small link to the highlighted page that you can share with students. This helps you point something out to a student so that they can see it better.

Pace Charts

I would also recommend printing off student's pace charts. That way, you don't have to guess if they are on pace when you are doing your weekly check up of students. You can see if they are where they should be and if they submitted the correct assignments for the week.
If they didn't, you can easily see it is time to start Step #1 of the Progress Policy. Take the Progress Policy templates and fill in the blanks and you can move on to the next student without any wasted time looking around for information.

Answer Keys

It is so helpful to print off the answer keys to keep by the computer when grading. That way, you won't have to keep downloading them when you need to grade one simple assignment. They are always handy.

You should also save them to your hard drive (laptop) in case you travel and forget to take your hard copy answer keys with you.
